MILFORD — The Pike County Youth Coalition, a non-profit youth-led organization, was one of 21 local agencies that recently received an allocation from the Pike County United Way. This allocation will be used to fund the coalition’s newly established Youth Volunteer Corps and afterschool volunteerism program. The coalition’s Committee on Community Service, chaired by Delaware Valley graduates Kaitlin Paul and Sarah McKean, will be organizing the new effort aimed at encouraging and facilitating youth volunteerism in the community. The Youth Volunteer Corps is a group of under-24-year-olds in Pike County who commit to volunteering at least 25 hours of community service per year. Sign-ups for the group are located under the “Get Involved” tab of the coalition’s homepage, www.pikeyouth.org. Membership is free, and a free t-shirt will be given to the first 100 people to sign up. Starting in late September, the coalition will be partnering with the United Way and Krise Bus to launch its afterschool volunteerism program at Delaware Valley High School. Every other week, members of the Youth Volunteer Corps and other students will have the opportunity to get on a bus after school, dedicate time at local charities and service organizations, and return to school in time for transportation back home. The Youth Volunteer Corps will also host and organize many other one-day events throughout the year. Sponsorships for the Youth Volunteer Corps are still being solicited for both the program’s T-Shirts and incentive prizes offered to participants. If you or your business would like to become a sponsor, if you have any questions, or if you are in need of volunteers for a project, please contact volunteer@pikeyouth.org .
