Local llamas garner show awards
Milford Six llamas from Snyder Quality Llamas at Foster Hill Farm in Milford walked away with eight awards at the prestigious “Big E” Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Mass. on Sept. 27. The llama show had over 190 high-caliber entrants. In competition, llamas are judged on conformation (structural integrity) and “presence” in the ring. Lord Nelson was named Grand Champion Light Wool Male and also ranked first in Light Wool Yearling Male. Reserve Grand Champion Heavy Wool Male was Metiche, who also took first for Heavy Wool Yearling Male. Second place awards went to Sergio’s White Starr, Medium Wool Juvenile Female; Ivy, Heavy Wool Yearling Female; and Five Starr for Get-of-Sire. (Get-of-Sire is awarded to the llama which has three show entrants that are exemplary progeny.) Beluga placed third in Medium Wool Yearling Male. Metiche will now compete in the National competition in Nebraska in late October. At the New York State Fair in Syracuse, N.Y. in late August, Snyder llamas also did well. Beluga placed first and also was Reserve Champion in the Medium Wool Male class, Pandora Starr placed first and was Grand Champion in Heavy Wool Female class. These llamas are some of the 69 llamas in residence at Foster Hill Farm.
