Anna Kovalcik Onuschak of Milford died peacefully in the Virginia home of her daughter and son-in-law on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015. She was 86.

Daughter of Paul Kovalcik and Mary Berta Kovalcik, she was born in Saurov, Slovakia, on July 30, 1929. She was married for 67 years to her beloved husband, John. She was a devoted wife and mother caring for her family in a loving household.

She was the co-owner and operator of Johnny’s Tavern on Route 209 in Port Jervis along with her husband, fulfilling their dream of being self-employed. Anna and John's Port Jervis friends and memories carried them across the river over in 1983 to Milford, where they retired and continued their friendships, taking residence in Keystone Park, Route 6. Her neighbors became her extended family, as she would lovingly refer to everyone “in the circle."

She never met a person where she wouldn’t say: “We live nearby, so drop by anytime for coffee and homemade Slovak cookies.”

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish since 1964. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America #114.

She was predeceased by her sister, Maria Kovalcik; her husband, John Onuschak, who died in October 2014; her son, Lt. John Edward Onuschak, who died in July 1974.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Onuschak Giandoni and her husband, Guillermo Giandoni of Lake Ridge, Va.; three grandchildren, John A. Giandoni of Maple Lawn, Md., William A. Giandoni of Arlington, Va., and Jenna A. Giandoni of Chicago; and great-grandson, John A. Giandoni.

Visitation was held at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis on Sept. 25. The Catholic Daughters Service was held in the funeral home.

Funeral services were held Sept. 26 with prayer at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Port Jervis, with the Rev. Matthew Newcomb officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis.
