Arthur R. Smith of Matamoras, Pa., passed away at home on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. He was 94.

Son of the late Chester and Eva (Silsby) Smith, he was born on June 5, 1926 in Matamoras. He was married to Gertrude (Ridley) Smith for over 42 years.

He was a retired lineman and maintenance worker for Orange and Rockland Utility Co. for 26 years. Art was a proud veteran, having served his county in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Tri-State Naval Ship #7241, Port Jervis, N.Y., and the Matamoras Fire Department, Matamoras. Art was a communicant at St. Joseph’s Church in Matamoras.

Art leaves behind his wife, Gertrude; daughters, Carol Long of Millsboro, Del., Karen Boomer of Hilo, Hawaii, and Lisa Bickel of Huguenot, N.Y.; stepchildren, Michael Stead of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., John Stead of Hawley, Pa., Maggie Merlucci of Toms River, N.J., and Joe Stead of Shohola, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Art was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris (Campbell) Smith; son, Craig; and sister, Isabel Peters.

Viewing was held at Stroyan Funeral Home, Milford, Pa., on April 13. Services followed with the Rev. Joseph Manarchuck officiating.

Cremation was private at the convenience of the family at MacLennan Hall Crematorium, Milford Township, Pa. Burial will take place in Milford Cemetery, Dingman Township, Pa., to be announced at a later date.
