    Carl August Berg, 86, of Milford, Pa., died on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, after a brave battle with cancer. He was 86.
    Born Nov. 29, 1930 in Bayonne, N.J., he moved to Staten Island, N.Y., in 1944 and graduated from McKee Vocational and Technical High Scholl in 1948. He attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.J., earning a bachelor’s of science degree in marine engineering in 1952.
    He worked for Merritt, Chapman and Scott as a marine engineer on salvage operations. He subsequently served in the U.S. Navy on the newly commissioned destroyer, USS Decatur, DD936 as assistant engineering officer from Aug. 1956 until Aug. 1958. He also worked for the New York Telephone Company for about 35 years in various engineering and executive positions before retiring as a division manager in May 1990. He then worked several years as a consultant in Puerto Rico and South Korea.
    After this he entered the ministry and served with the Christian and Missionary Alliance as a pastor in four different congregations in Eastern Pennsylvania, retiring in 2011. The last church he served in was Country Alliance Church in Clarks Summit, Pa., where he continued to serve in various positions including the Elder Board and Board of Ministries, and taught bible classes until the present time.
    He enjoyed many activities alongside his wife, including membership in the Gideons International from 1977 until 1996, serving in various capacities. He served as a board member for a few years of Country Ark Farms in Milford. Hobbies included winter sports, gold, gardening, and spending time with his family.
    Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joan A. Berg (Johnsen); children, Janet Delph (Berg) and her husband, Dan, of Euless, Texas, David Berg and his wife, Stefanie, of Susquehanna, Pa., Joan Isemann (Berg) and her husband, John, of Long Valley, N.J,. John Berg and his wife, Enid, of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., and Ellyn Vandergoot (Berg) and her husband, Chris, Vandergoot of Huron, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Anna Victoria Korpan; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
    Visitation at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, was scheduled for Thursday, March 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Mendham Hills Community Church, 480 Route 24, Chester, N.J., on Friday, March 3, at 3 p.m. Burial in Milford Cemetery, Dingman Township, Pa., will be private at the convenience of the family.
