Dorothy C. (Loder) Smith of Dingmans Ferry died at home on Monday, June 22, 2015, after a long illness. She was 90.

The oldest daughter of the late Edward C. and Dorothy G. (Rowe) Loder, she was born at home on DeKalb Avenue in Brooklyn, on Feb. 18, 1925. She lived most of her life in Ridgewood, Queens, N.Y., where she met and married Rubin L. Smith of Clinton, Mo., while he was serving his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II. They divorced in 1966, and Dorothy never remarried.

She owned and operated a luncheonette in Ozone Park, N.Y., until a fire destroyed the business. She then moved to Newton, N.J., where she drove a school bus for 36 years for Stocker Bus Co. Finally her health necessitated her in 2008 to move to Pennsylvania to live with her daughter.

Survivors include her son, Daniel C. Smith of Riverhead, N.Y., daughter, Maureen C. (Smith) Shima of Dingmans Ferry; brother, Edward O. Loder and wife, Phyllis, of Terryville, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and two nieces and six nephews and their spouses and children.

She was predeceased by her two sisters, Gloria Graf and Ruth Marchese; grandson, David Shima, niece Renee (Marchese) Bdzyr, nephew Gary Graf and niece Sharon (Loder) Young.

Services and interment will be held at a later date.

Arrangements were made by Stroyan Funeral Home in Milford.
