Eugene Cornelius Goldner

    Eugene Cornelius Goldner of Dingmans Ferry passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 at Belle Reve Living Center. He was 87.
    Eugene's Army career spanned 37 years, including active duty and the New York Army National Guard. He served 19 months in Vietnam where he was awarded a Purple Heart and Soldiers Medal, and was decorated for valor. Eugene retired as a lieutenant colonel. After his military retirement, Eugene was an investigator for the New Jersey State Department of Mental Health.
    Eugene was active in veterans’ organizations and served as commander of VFW Post 8612, vice commander of American Legion Post 139, and vice president of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 623 and was a member of the Veterans Corps - 69 Regiment. Eugene was also an active member of the Veterans Memorial Park and Education Center in Matamoras from its inception and served as committee vice president until 2016. Eugene was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9832, and was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Milford.
    The son of the late George and Ann (Kelleher) Goldner, Eugene was born on Aug. 29, 1929 in Jersey City, N.J. He was married to Norma Harris for 59 years.
    Eugene is survived by: his wife, Norma Goldner of Dingmans Ferry; son Mark Goldner (Col USMCR Ret) and his wife Maria of Charleston, West Virginia; son Stephen Goldner (US Coast Guard Ret) of Hackettstown, N.J.; son Col. Thomas Goldner (USA) and his wife Julie; daughter Jean Lorraine Goldner of Boston, Massachusetts; daughter-in-law Margaret Quinn of Bordentown, N.J.; former daughter-in-law Laura Rooney of Lawrence; six grandchildren, Meaghan, Andrew, Maura, Brisly, Seneque, and Timothy; and brother Michael Goldner of Union City, N.J.
    Eugene was predeceased by his son, Bruce Goldner, his brothers George and John and his sister Ann Zamparelli.
    Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 W. Harford St., Milford.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 101 St. Vincent Dr., Milford.
    Burial will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
