Gordon C. Mathsen passed away at Ellen Memorial Rehabilitation Center, Honesdale, Pa., on March 28, 2026. He was the son of the late Arthur D. Mathsen and Mildred A. Conklin Moore, born on November 9, 1942, in Nyack, N.Y. He graduated from Nyack High School in 1960 and entered the U.S. Navy on May 19, 1964, serving on the USS Keppler, and having two tours in Sicily. After his honorable discharge, he was employed by Lederle Laboratories, Pearl River, N.Y., until his retirement.

He loved playing his guitar and country music. He played with several local bands all his life. He spoke frequently of history and trains, especially New York Central and the Civil War. He was a member of the Sons of Veterans of the Civil War.

He is survived by his sister, Millie Diefenbach; nephews Arthur (Suzanne), Robert (Debbie) and Karl (Kris) Diefenbach, Charles, Richard, Steven(Gloria), Christopher(Diana), Michael Williams (Amy); nieces Karen Diefenbach Mazzone (Robert), Annemarie Cutler (Russell); great nieces Mary (Ofir), Emma Helms (Jon), Sonya Samanteu (German), Sarah MacEntee (Gary), Emily Bonfilgio (Brandon), Charlotte Diefenbach (Meg) and great nephews Philipp (Amanda), Mathew, Victor and Dwight Diefenbach; cousins Judy Orbine Turner, Linda Orbine Holly, Steve Orbine, and Catherine Brooks (Kevan).

He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Mathsen Williams, brothers-in-law, Neal Williams and Rolf Diefenbach; nephew Peter Williams and niece Kathleen Williams; cousins Nils and Richard Mathsen and Louise Mathsen Komaromy.

Family will receive friends at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, Pa., on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 12 to 1 p.m. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Rev. Herbert Jacobsen officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras, Pa. with military honors.
