James A. Koferl
James A. Koferl of Matamoras, Pa., died on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, N.Y. He was 78.
Son of Leonard and Pearl Skinner Koferl, he was born on Dec. 8, 1936, in Narrowsburg, N.Y.
He was a self-employed contractor. He was a former Boy Scout Leader for Troop #77, Matamoras; a former coach for Port Jervis Little League; a member of the Port Jervis Lions Club; and a member of the Port Jervis Lodge of Masons #328, F&AM. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Above all, spending time with his grandchildren gave him the most joy.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Rowe Koferl, at home; two sons, William Koferl and his wife, Beth, of Matamoras, and Michael Koferl and his wife, Heather, of Dingmans, Pa.; two grandchildren, Travis and Ashleigh; sister, Augusta DeGraw of Sullivan County, N.Y.; mother-in-law, Lou Ella Rowe of Sparrowbush, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Debra Rowe and her companion, Kenneth Kent, of Sparrowbush; brother-in-law James Rowe and his wife, Bernadette, of Brooklyn; his longtime close friends Don Reed and his wife, Jean, of Glen Spey, N.Y., whom Jim considered as a brother; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Belle.
He was pre-deceased by his brothers Raymond, John, Leonard, and Norman Koferl; and his sisters Alice Tyler, Eleanor Edwards, Rose Gallagher, Alice Collns, and Mary Koferl.
Funeral services were held Dec. 7 at the Sparowbush United Methodist Church. The Rev. Amy Garrett officiated.
