James Frederik den Outer
James Frederik den Outer of Simpsonville, S.C., died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at his home. He was 53.
Son of Jacobus "Dutch" den Outer and Charlotte den Outer, he was born in Patterson, N.J., and grew up in Shohola, Pa.
He attended Delaware Valley High School in Milford, Pa. He received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University.
He worked at General Electric for 27 years and currently as a Chief Consulting Engineer in the Power and Gas Division. He enjoyed woodworking, outdoor activities, and sports.
He was especially proud of his Villanova Wildcats. As an engineer, he was well-known for always being prepared. He volunteered for Hands on Greenville, Special Olympics, and several programs through GE including: GE Leadership Team, GE Fundraising, Women's Network, Hispanic Forum, and United Way Campaign.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Theresa P. den Outer; son, Matthew den Outer; daughters, Elisa den Outer and Jill den Outer; step-daughter, Kristen Moody; and sisters, Annette den Outer and Susan den Outer.
A funeral mass was held Aug. 31 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, GE Ramps Team, c/o Upstate Veterans Alliance, Brandon Hutson, CEO, 200 Isaqueena Dr., Greer, SC 29651-5672; or to a local charity Jim volunteered for.
