Lois H. Simpson

Lois H. Simpson of Port Jervis, N.Y., died on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, in Milford, Pa. She was 83.
Daughter of Milton S. and Helen Bodle Hasbrouck, she was born on Aug. 2, 1933, in Montgomery, N.Y.
She graduated from Orange County Community College and continued her education at Cortland State Teacher College, where she earned her bachelors in education. She taught second grade in the Port Jervis School District. She worked as a partner with her husband, Dr. Francis A. Simpson, at the Tri-State Veterinary Hospital, which they owned for many years.
She was a member of the Deerpark Reformed Church, Port Jervis; a charter member and co-founder of the Port Jervis-Deerpark Humane Society; a member of the Port Jervis Antique Study Club; a member of the Neversink Valley Area Museum; and a member and former leader of the Port Jervis 4-H Club. She was an active member and instrumental in the formation of the Port Jervis Council of the Arts and the Port Jervis Arts Walk. She was responsible for sponsoring numerous artists' receptions and introducing new artists works into the community. She was also a member and founder of the River Valley Arts Guild.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Francis A. Simpson, at home; son, Bruce F. Simpson of Port Jervis; daughters, Sheri Emery and her husband, Bob, of Poolesville, Md., Lisa Szydlow and her husband, Kenneth, of Bethlehem, Pa.; brother, Preston Hasbrouck of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; grandchildren, Samantha and her husband, Michael, Thomas, Benjamin, Nathan, and Emma; and several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her brother Milton Hasbrouck.
Visitation was held Feb. 17 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis. Memorial services were held Feb. 18 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home with the Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officiating. Interment was to take place at Bruynswick Rural Cemetery, Shawangunk, N.Y.
