Robert A. Nied

    Robert A. Nied of Milford, formerly of Blooming Grove and Union, N.J., died Monday, March 23, 2015, at Regional Hospital Of Scranton, Hospice Unit in Scranton. He was 88.

    Son of the late Charles J. Nied and Mamie Minnie (Kline) Nied Stewart, he was born Oct. 20, 1926 in Newark, N.J.

    He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Ann (Scherer) Nied; and a brother, Charles Joseph Nied.

    He served in the Navy as a Seabee during World War II and was on Okinawa during the American invasion. He was the owner of Nied’s Homestead Resort/

    He was a 17-year veteran of the Union, N.J., Police Department, serving as a lieutenant; and was the director of Union Township Junior Police Program. He was a life member of the New Jersey Police Benevolent Association, past commander of the VFW Post 8612 in Milford, a scout leader in both New Jersey and Lake Wallenpaupack, member of German/American Club in Port Jervis and Middleton, and a master carpenter.

    He was devoted to his family, adored his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Most cherished times were celebrating special occasions with his family, especially celebrating Christmas in the Bavarian tradition.

    Survivors include his wife, Aimee (Schuster) Schanzenbacher Nied; two sons, Robert C. Nied and wife, Kathleen, of Tafton; William P. Nied and wife, Clare, of Westfall Township; five grandchildren; four great grandchidren; two stepdaughters, Rita Schanzenbacher and Hannelore Schanzenbacher; stepson, Peter Schanzenbacher; and four stepgrandchildren.

    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 28 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Matamoras, with the Rev. James Walsh officiating. Burial was in Milford Cemetery.
