Rose Marie Scandura of Milford, Pa., passed away peacefully at her home on March 28, 2026. Born in Astoria, Queens, N.Y., to Leonard and Eleanor Pfeiffer on September 6, 1947. She grew up with her two younger sisters, Ellen and Ann.

As a young woman Rose Marie worked in Manhattan as a secretary in the banking profession, then on to Memorial Sloan Kettering as an Administrator. When she moved to Pennsylvania, Rose Marie spent years working for Good Shepard Child Care Center.

She also spent 24 years as an Instructional Assistant for the Delaware Valley School District in the Special Education Department, serving special needs students; a position she found very rewarding.

She met and married her husband of 45 years, Bruce Scandura, in 1981. They became parents to daughter, Robin Scandura and son, Paul Scandura.

Rose Marie loved nature, spending time in Montauk, Long Island, N.Y., at the ocean, where she was married and summer vacationed with her family for many years.

When Rose Marie’s youngest sister, Ann, passed away, she left behind her young son, Kyle.

Without hesitation, she brought her nephew to her home in Milford, PA, to live with family, while he continued his education.

In many ways she was like the Lighthouse at Montauk Point, always there, always guiding her family safely through the storms of life.

She was a progressive, forward-thinking, free-spirited, and caring individual, with a sense of humor. She was an avid reader and music lover, from Rock n Roll to Jazz to Opera. She attended concerts at Lincoln Center, The Fillmore East, various jazz clubs, etc. She also spent three days at Woodstock in 1969, returning once again to celebrate its 50th Anniversary Concert in 2019.

She had many feline companions throughout her lifetime, some of which would just show up at the house and walk through the door. They knew they could spend their lives with her in safety and comfort.

Rose Marie is survived by her husband, Bruce Scandura, her daughter, Robin Scandura, her son, Paul Scandura, her sister, Ellen Beitz and brother-in-law Raymond Beitz, her nephew Kyle Walsh, her sister-in-law Roseann Scandura, her niece Kimberly Cottiers-Bersch and husband Christopher and their family, her niece Danielle Cottiers and family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Eleanor Pfeiffer, her youngest sister, Ann Pfeiffer, brother-in-law, Jack Scandura and his son, her nephew, Bruce Scandura.

A book that gave her some comfort in life was “The Prophet” by Kahlil Gibran.

These are the last words on the last page of that book:

“She still stood alone upon the sea-wall, remembering in her heart his saying,

’A little while, a moment of rest upon the wind, and another woman shall bear me.’”

The immediate family will meet privately at a yet undetermined date to remember and celebrate her life and her many roles as a Woman, Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt and Friend.
