Ruth A. Van Gieson

    Ruth A. Van Gieson, 74, of Port Jervis, N.Y. died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, N.Y.

    She was born on June 16, 1940 in Goshen, N.Y. the daughter of the late Alfred Judson and Margaret Youman Judson O'Rourke.

    Ruth worked in quality control at Sparkomatic Corp, Milford. She also worked at the Port Jervis and Milford Grand Union Stores and Lloyds Convenience Store in Port Jervis until her retirement.

    Ruth attended the Drew United Methodist Church in Port Jervis. She was a member of the Port Jervis Women's Bowling League, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Roosa-Fleming VFW Post #161, Port Jervis, a member of the Montague Grange #140, and a member of the Montague Fire Dept. Ruth was the first lady firewoman in the State of New Jersey.

    She is survived by her twin brother Rev. Robert E. Judson and his wife Sheila of Los Lunas, New Mexico, her sisters, Janice Judson Mason of Indianapolis, Ind., Patricia Salter and her husband Steven of Milton, Fla., her nephew Jeffrey Judson and his wife Megan. Ruth always considered Jeffrey as her adopted son. Her great nephew William Jeffrey Judson, her long time companions, Linda, Alice, Brenda, and Leo, several nieces and nephews.

    She was pre-deceased by her brother Alfred Judson and her brother-in-law Charles Mason.

    A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Port Jervis-Deerpark Humane Society, Route 209, Port Jervis, NY 12771.
