Thomas R. Grimes of Milford, Pa., died Friday, May 20, 2016, at home with his family by his side, after a brave battle with mesothelioma. He was 73.
Son of the late Wilbert Grimes and the late Eleanor Lord Grimes, he was born May 6, 1943, in Jersey City, N.J.
He married Estelle Mureski on Nov. 7, 1980, in Clifton, N.J. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1960-64.
He worked as a corrections officer for New Jersey State Department of Corrections in Rahway, N.J. He then worked for the Rohrer Bus Co. as a trip driver for Delaware Valley School District for over 10 years.
A family statement read, "Thom enjoyed fishing, movies, reading, teaching bible study and spending time with his family and friends. He had a very kind heart and a quick wit. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him."
Surviving are his wife, Estelle Grimes, at home; son, Dennis Carbone and his wife, Sherre, of Linden, N.J.; daughter, Michelle Carbone of Milford; sisters, Diane Davis and her husband, Alton, of Philadelphia, and Sharon Leonard and her husband, Jim, of Ithaca, N.Y.; brother, Robin Grimes of Auburn, N.Y.; granddaughter, Leigha Dolcemascolo; grandchildren, Michael Carbone, Frankie Dolcemascolo, Matthew Carbone, and Nicole Carbone; sister in law, Charlotte Korzenowski and her husband, Stanley Clifton, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was scheduled to be held at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis, N.Y., on Monday, May 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, at Deerpark Reformed Church, 28 East Main St., Port Jervis. Burial with military honors will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ 07031.
