Victor E. Orben, a lifelong Milford resident, died on Sunday, June 14, 2015, after a long illness. He was 87.

He was the son of Everett and Hazel Orben.

Survivors include his wife, Jane; four sons, Richard, Kerry and his wife, Laura, Jay, and Mark and his wife, Amy Orben, all of Milford; one granddaughter, Kaylan and her husband, Todd Alexander, of Chambersburg; sister, Sheila; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Orben; and many nieces and nephews.

He founded Victor E. Orben, Professional Land Surveyors, in 1959 and was the last elected county surveyor. He enjoyed being in the field and, with his sons, had surveyed most of the county. Many other surveyors now working in the area learned the craft under him.

He also enjoyed painting and his art gallery, making stained glass, traveling to Cape Cod and Newport, his horses, and making birdhouses in his wood shop.

He joined the Navy when he was a teenager to fight in World War II just before the war ended. In his younger years, he was a volunteer firefighter at the Milford Fire Department and a member of the Milford Lions Club.

Most of all, he adored his only granddaughter Kaylan. He loved spending time with her and watching her grow up.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth; and two sisters, Olive and Joyce.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of services or flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pike County Humane Society, PO Box 255, Milford, PA 18337.

Arrangements were made by Stroyan Funeral Home, Milford.
