William Pete Rocksandich

    William Pete Rocksandich of Shohola, Pa., died on Sunday, July 5, 2015, after a long illness. He was 79.

    Known as “Bill” or “Rocky” to his many friends, he was born in 1936 in Shohola. He was the son of Matilda Loeblein Rocksandich and Milos Rocksandich of Indianapolis, Indiana. Matilda later married Harold Eckert from Shohola, who was a loving step-father to Bill.

    He grew up in Shohola and attended Shohola Elementary School. He graduated from Milford High School in Milford.

    He served in the U.S. Army 7th Aviation Division from 1956-1958 in Tong Duchon, Korea. He worked for General Telephone Company until his retirement.

    He lived in Tampa, Fla., for many years before retiring to Sky Lake, Ga., in 1989. He loved playing tennis, was an avid golfer for many years, and loved the outdoors. He was also a huge sports fan, rooting for the Atlanta Falcons, the Braves, and the Georgia Bulldogs.

    He spent many years of his retirement volunteering in the Sky Lake community.

    He was a loving father, grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death by his brother, Milos Rocksandich; and his sister, Dorothy Rocksandich.

    Survivors include his daughter, Leesha Torppey, her husband, Shawn; three grandchildren, Dillon, Zachary, and Faith of Hardwick, N.J.; sister, Jean Gross and her husband, Hans, of Pine Island, N.Y.; two nieces and many great nieces and nephews; many beloved friends, including Bill and Marsha Michaels of Clarksville, Ga., and Grannon Thompson of Sky Lake, Ga.; and all of the coffee crew at Sky Lake, Ga.

    With respect to Bill's wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Glory, Hope and Life, c/o Longstreet Cancer Center, 725 Jessie Jewel Parkway, Suite 390, Gainesville, GA 30501.
