Olympiads move to state competition

WESTFALL - The Delaware Valley Science Olympiad team placed fourth out of 36 teams at the Northeast Regional Science Olympiad competition at Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, March 8. The team now advances to state competition on April 27 and 28 at Juniata College in Huntingdon. This level has not been reached by a Delaware Valley team for more than ten years. Sixteen students represented the school at the competition which hosted over 20 events that included everything from airplane building and catapult launching to chemistry labs and tests about glaciers. Coach John Anderson, science teacher at the Delaware Valley Middle School, said the group is a strong academic team. Although surprised at the victory, he said “we knew we had the potential.” The following students earned medals in their competitions: Chemistry Lab: 1st place - Skyler Schneider, George Hupfer; Circuit Lab: 1st place- Jasper Schneider, Ben McKean; Dynamic Planet: 1st place - Lindsey Anderson, Ryan Jameson; Fermi Questions: 1st place- Jasper Schneider, Ben McKean; Write It - Do It: 1st place Georgiy Polyak, Rita Polyak; Designer Genes: 2nd place - Kristyn Gumpper, Skyler Schneider; and Physics Lab: 2nd place - Jasper Schneider, Ben McKean.
