preservation efforts HAWLEY — The Wallenpaupack Historical Society recently held it’s 6th annual awards dinner and auction. This years award recipients for the Preservation Award - Individual Achievements were Donald J. Roberts for his preservation of over 800 photos of the Wallenpaupack River Valley and lake construction, contribution in writing “Wallenpaupack”, and bringing the Forestry Legacy Project to Pike County. Erich and Ida Martin were named for their extensive collection of uranium glass and reported to be one of the largest in the US. Uranium glass glows in the dark when illuminated with ultra-violet light. They have collected various music boxes, reproducing pianos, clocks and time pieces. This year WHS has established a special award for exceptional service, the Directors’ Award. It was awarded to Jon Tandy for his years of valuable service to the society and his contributions to its growth and success. The auctioneer was Tom Mincer and he helped make the live auction entertaining and lively. With his help and that of many sponsors and donor’s of auction items the society will continue its educational benefits and preservation of local history.
