A new career at 82

BLOOMING GROVE n George Kanfer is stepping down from his post at the Pike County Area on Aging after 18-years service to his fellow seniors. But he’s not done yet. “He’s just an all-around good guy,” said Jason “Rob” Lasky who heads up TV 13’s Pike County Bureau. “I interviewed him many times over the years; when he worked with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary promoting and teaching safe boating and at the senior center where he seemed to be everywhere while helping fellow seniors to find jobs. You just won’t find a nicer man.” Along with his Coast Guard and area on aging service, Kanfer also worked a full career with the New York City Sanitation Department. Now, according to Pike County Commissioner Rich Caridi, he will serve as a lay minister for the Holy Trinity Church in Delaware Township. “We all wish him well,” said Caridi. “He’s been an inspiration to me personally. His energy and commitment to God, country and community has truly inspired me.” After every one of the many talks and speeches Kanfer gave over the years, he always signed off saying, “God bless you all and God bless America.” Caridi said, “This time we’ll say God bless you George and thank you.”
