Alley ordinance review continues

MILFORD — The Milford Borough Council revisited the subject of public safety during their meeting on Monday. The provision mandated clear sight triangles at cramped alley intersections. If adopted, the amendment to the current zoning ordinance would provide for an area of unobstructed view between two and ten feet above alley grades within ten feet of intersecting property. Dick Snyder questioned the exact measurements as relevant to signage, and the council tabled the amendment in order to provide more time to consult with engineers. The council, however, did vote to amend a sign ordinance within the borough that would allow future placement of signs erected by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. These blue colored signs, such as the one located in front of the courthouse, denote something of historical significance. The Council commented that it knows of one or two local organizations which expressed interest in the measure. In one last significant matter, Planning Commission Chair Peter Rushton addressed the council about the work that needs to be done regarding the 2010 Census. “I bring glad tidings from the government,” he jokingly said in reference to the meeting at which he represented the borough recently. Rushton, by now relatively well-versed in governmental acronyms which he gladly shared with the council, attended a workshop titled LUCA, standing for Local Update on Census Addresses. Rushton related a detailed process the borough will have to go through to update a variety of information for the Census Bureau. “It is unbelievably complex, but it is a process that should be taken seriously,” he said. Borough President Matt Osterberg will decide in the coming weeks what route the borough will take in complying with the process.
