DINGMAN — Two Dingman-Delaware students, Tiana Ricardi and Kathleen Forichon were selected to be Student Ambassadors to Australia in the summer of 2008. The People To People Student Ambassador Program provides international educational opportunities for grade school, junior high school and high school students. Kathleen and Tiana will have hands-on learning opportunities as they immerse themselves in the arts, sports and family life of Australians. Among the places they will visit in Australia are Sydney, Canberra, Darwin, and Crains. The educational component of the Student Ambassador Program begins long before the student embarks on travel. Pre-travel orientation meetings led by delegation leaders help meet the educational goals of the program and prepare students for the travel experience. Students learn about the geography, history, government, and culture of the places they will visit. They also develop civic awareness, citizenship, communication, and other skills to prepare them to be Student Ambassadors. In addition both girls are eligible to earn transferable high school and college credits. On Sunday Nov. 11, at the St. Vincent De Paul Church on state Route 739, across from Ray and Charles there will be an International Dinner from 5.30 to 9 p.m., to benefit Tiana and Kathleen’s tuition which is $6,399 per student. The meals will be prepared by MealsByMaureen personal chef and her crew.
