And speaking of airports

MILFORD — You’ve heard of Myer Airport, the one serving Milford? We hadn’t, so we called county officials. “Probably in Monroe County,” someone suggested. Well, maybe it’s an old airport we thought. No, a prominent local historian had never heard of it either. But the US Transportation Department has heard of Myer Airport. They issued an order in March to establish “Class E Airspace at Milford ... to support a new Area Navigation GPS system” for instrument flight approaches. Before you go looking for reservations and long term parking, we’ll explain. We’d been talking to the wrong people. Private pilots like Kevin Stroyan know about the grass landing strip area on the Walter Myer property off Frenchtown Road. “I’ve been here 30 years and it’s always been there,” said Attorney John Klemeyer. The new airspace ruling applies to sites developed for medical helicopter flights. Myer Airport is one these sites.
