Baby arrives in new year's storm

HONESDALE Snowstorms may delay a lot of things, but the stork flies in all weather. The first big storm of 2008 didn’t stop Ruby Elizabeth Martin’s push to be born. Her mother was rushed to Wayne Memorial Hospital at 4:30 a.m., Jan. 1, in the thick of the storm. Dr. Hoon Yoo performed an emergency cesarean section, and Ruby arrived in the world at 8:47 a.m. The 7 pound, 14 ounce infant is Wayne Memorial’s very first baby of 2008 for its New Beginnings Maternity Department. Parents Lisa and David Martin of Honesdale were very grateful that the hospital had a team in place and ready to go when they were. “Doctor Yoo, the nurses, the operating room team, they were just great,” said Lisa. Ruby is husband David’s first child and Lisa’s fifth. “I always come to Wayne Memorial to have my babies,” Lisa continued. “It’s always been wonderful, but this time, with the snow, I was really thankful this hospital is here and the staff is so terrific.”
