Board vote finalizes purchase
Westfall By a 6-3 vote, the Delaware Valley School Board on Oct. 11 agreed to finalize the $2.95 million purchase of the 38.94 acre, CBH Holdings-Biondo property opposite Altec-Lansing on the three-lane of U.S. Route 6/209. The land, to site a proposed new elementary school, has been hotly contested by opponents, who wanted the decision delayed until after the upcoming elections. Those opponents, including board candidate Diane French have argued for new construction on the existing Westfall campus. With three Taxpayers United candidates anticipating election, after strong primary election showings, opponents said the current board pushed the measure through quickly to insure no interference in the purchase. On the contrary, Board President John Wroblewski said the board has been talking about a land purchase for three years. Board proponents of the purchase and school administrators say the existing campus is already overcrowded. “We know we need the building and this is almost the perfect piece of land,” Wroblewski said. He added that the sale price is lower than two of the three appraisals done for the district.
