Borough wants its post office

Milford In addition to the inconvenience, the loss of a post office also means a loss of commercial traffic, Richard Snyder told the borough council Monday. Postal officials came to the borough last month asking for help in finding a location to replace the existing Fifth and West Harford Street location, which they said the area has outgrown. Snyder fears it will move out of the cramped borough. At his suggestion, the council agreed to develop a position paper to lobby the Postal Service and U.S. Rep. Chris Carney to retain a satellite post office within the borough. In other business, Council President Matt Osterberg said the 2008 borough budget would include a tax hike amounting to about $70 on the average borough property. Increased salary, insurance and equipment costs prompted the increase. There will be a public hearing on the $991,715 budget at 7 p.m. on Dec. 27.
