Bueki's DARE' pays off

Delaware Valley School Board President Bob Goldsack is pictured with Pike County Sheriff Phil Bueki, as the district last month honored Bueki, who was named as Law Enforcement Executive of the Year by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, Bueki, who began one of the state’s first DARE programs in Pike in 1986, was honored for personally lobbying the state legislature in Harrisburg to get budget cuts restored and keep the program going. His effort prompted numerous nominations by law enforcement colleagues. Told of his award in a phone call from the DEA, the sherrif was skeptical. “They told me the Obama administration was calling. I said Sure it is.’” He said his formal award presentation in Washington before 2,500 colleagues was “one of the of the proudest moments of my career.”
