Builders support PEEC literacy camp

DINGMANS FERRY n The Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) received a $25,000 donation from LTS Builders, Inc., in addition to a $25,000 personal donation from Larry and Monica Simon. The combined $50,000 donation will support PEEC’s Summer Literacy Program for local 4th- and 5th-grade elementary students. During this summer program, also known as PEEC’s Ultimate Summer Camp, students from the Delaware Valley and East Stroudsburg area school districts participate in an eighteen-day literacy-based program that combines environmental education classes, field trips, academic skills and recreational activities. Ultimate Summer campers experience an outdoor classroom setting for learning natural science and environmental literacy, while improving and cultivating their language, writing and mathematical skills. This program helps reach students who may not excel within the time constraints of the current school day and year. The literacy components of this program have been designed by PEEC, Pennsylvania certified teachers and local school district representatives. PEEC’s Executive Director/CEO Jim Rienhardt said, “I would like to once again thank LTS Builders as well as Larry and Monica Simon for their generous support of PEEC. Their continued generosity will allow us to once again hold this summer program that has become very important to the PEEC staff and area students over the past three years.” LTS has also offered to match any additional funds raised for this important program.
