Milford — The New Muir House will be celebrating its one-year anniversary on Sept. 20. A year ago, under the new management team of Hillary Needleman and Robert Grimm and with the culinary expertise of Executive Chef Seth VanBenschoten, the restaurant reopened with a philosophy rooted in universality and accommodation, making the New Muir House a mix of classic and modern, upscale and casual. The owners say the New Muir House offers an environment in which diners will feel comfortable and enjoy, whether they are stopping by for a burger and beer on their way home from work, or are celebrating a special anniversary. Needleman says, “We look at the New Muir House as Milford’s take on a bistro. Anyone can join us, whether in jeans and a T-shirt or a tuxedo and tails. We want everyone to feel comfortable here n like they are in their living room, but with more delicious and eclectic food options and a bigger bar.” Grimm adds, “If our porch lights are on, come on in.” To this end, the New Muir House has put together a friendly, competent serving staff. Grimm says, “We like that the customers know our servers by name and that our servers know what our guests like.” The combination of these factors has led to a successful first year for the revitalized establishment. The owners are excited about the choices they have made over the past year. Beginning in February, they instituted Mexican Night at La Casa de Muir. Needleman had always wanted a Mexican restaurant and the New Muir House has given her the opportunity to try it. Their live jazz Sunday brunches have also received high praise. As a reflection of the restaurant’s new philosophy, the restaurant hosts a variety of musical talents, including John Curtin, Robert Kopec, Joe Guerra, The Booglerizers, Donna Antonow, Martha Lorin, Carl Ferriere & Friends and Broadway pianist Michael Rice. With each performance, the vibe of the restaurant changes in reflection of the artist’s musical style. The New Muir House has, in this past year, participated in many worthy causes including Chef’s Do Dinner (CDD), Taste of Talent (Project Self-Sufficiency), Sunset & Wines (Bon Secours Hospital Foundation), just to name a few. Grimm and Needleman are also looking forward to holding a benefit for Safe Haven on Sept. 28. Grimm says, “We are always more than willing to support the local community.” In celebration of the New Muir House’s one year anniversary, Needleman and Grimm invite old friends and new to join them on Sept. 20 for an M&M party, a buffet of “Mexican and Mussels,” with Carl Ferriere & Friends performing. “We want to thank those of you who have supported us over this past year and invite those of you who don’t know us yet to join in the fun,” Grimm says. “Let’s celebrate what we hope will be the first of many anniversaries.” For more information, call 570-296-6373 or e-mail muirhousemilford@aol.com .
