Chant Realtors sold Hawley's Castle

Hawley Davis R. Chant Realtors this spring completed the sale of a Route 6 landmark, The Castle, an exceptional commercial property that housed Castle Antiques and Reproductions for over 30 successful years. The Castle has been sold to a group of local investors for community benefit and business development. Chant Realtor Stephanie Matolyak said with a smile, “I sell castles all the time, whether it’s a farm or lakefront, a person’s home is their castle. This Castle just happens to be the largest one for me in the many years I’ve been a Realtor. It will be home to many wonderful businesses, educational programs, and so much more.” The building was originally built as the Belmont Silk Mill in 1880, the largest bluestone factory in the world. The Silk Mill property has over 60,000 square feet of space on five floors ranging in size from 2,000 to 17,000 square feet. There is an additional 23,000 square feet of warehouse space on the property. Plans for the building include mixed commercial use such as professional offices, retail space, a silk mill museum, educational facility, community coffee shop, and a year round market featuring local art and produce. Phase 1 is planned to begin this summer. The historic qualities of the building will be preserved.
