Christians mark the beginning of Lent

In accordance with Ash Wednesday, Ginny Donnelly, left, and granddaughter Lauren Donnelly received ashes at a 4 p.m., Feb. 25 service at Saint Joseph’s Parish in Matamoras. Ash Wednesday marks the onset of Lent, the 40-day period of fasting and abstinence, which culminates at Easter.
