Colletta and Schneider win national academic recognition

WESTFALL n Delaware Valley High School has announce that two seniors have been selected as Semifinalists in the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program. They have an opportunity to continue in the competition to receive scholarships that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements and advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing and approximately half of the finalists will be selected as Merit Scholarship winners, earning the Merit Scholarship title. Frankie Colletta is both academically and athletically gifted. He has been on the Delaware Valley High School football team for four years. He was a Super 16 Dream Team Running Back, an All-Region Offensive Player of the Year, an All-League Running Back, Delaware Valley’s Wendy’s Heisman Nominee, Channel 12 Athlete of the Week and Fox 56 All-Region Running Back. Frankie is also on the Wrestling team and was an All-League/All-Region Wrestling team member. He was involved in District 2 and Regional Wrestling and he participated in the PIAA State Championship. Frankie is also on the Weightlifting team and he has been a member of the Track team. Frankie has coached both football and wrestling, and he has volunteered for “Adopt-A-Highway” and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Jasper Schneider has had many academic honors. He is a member of the National Honor Society and he participated in the Scholastic Bowl. Last year, he was Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta and he is still a member this year. He has been a Delaware Valley Student of the Month and won numerous awards in Science Olympiad, the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Sciences, and the Marywood Math Contest. He achieved the highest math averages for the Math Award in grades 9, 10 and 11; and the highest science average in the Science Award in 9th and 10th grades. He is a Choir Accompanist and he volunteered for the Senior Citizens’ Dinner and the 9/11 Memorial Service. He was involved in the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences and he also received the RPI Medal.
