Commission awards Milford-Montague bridge contact

    MORRISVILLE — The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission today awarded the construction contract for the rehabilitation of the Milford-Montague Toll Bridge. The project includes repainting the bridge and replacing the existing bridge deck, approach roadway pavements and toll plaza. “This project is an important part of our ongoing long-term capital improvement program,” said Frank G. McCartney, Executive Director of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. “By rehabilitating our bridges, we are enhancing safety and improving traffic flow for the thousands of motorists who rely on our crossings every day.” The Commission awarded the construction contract to IEW Construction Group, of Trenton, N.J., for an amount not to exceed $15.22 million. Construction is expected to begin by the end of this year. The Milford-Montague Toll Bridge is the northern-most bridge crossing the Delaware River under the Commission’s jurisdiction. Located seven miles south of the New Jersey and New York state line, the bridge connects U.S. Route 206 at Montague, N.J. to US. Routes 6 and 209 at Milford. In 2006, an average of 8,500 trips was made across the bridge daily.
