Local and state police wait on the New York shore as divers and others search the Delaware near Lackawaxen for 27-year-old Ryan Nibar, of Hollis, Queens, N.Y., who drowned on the afternoon of July 4 while attempting to swim across the river. Nibar was with several relatives, 80 of whom were attending a family reunion at a campground, when he tired in deeper water near the Pa. shore. Their attempts to help him were unsuccessful. Nibar’s body was recovered at 6:15 p.m. Upstream, at Skinners Falls opposite Wayne County, Pablo Ferreira, 17, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., drowned that morning, also while attempting to swim across the river.
