WILKES-BARRE - On Feb. 3, the Delaware Valley High School Jazz Ensemble traveled to the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre to perform at an American Hockey League game. Under the direction of Lance Rauh, the band performed for the hour preceding the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The band performed before a near sell-out crowd of over 9,000 while playing on the concourse level of the arena. After the performance, the band members were able to enjoy the game that ended with a Penguin victory. This is the third consecutive year the band has been invited to perform before a hockey game. Two years ago the Jazz band played for the Philadelphia Flyers and last year for the Penguins. At the last performance, one fan joked with Mr. Rauh, saying, “This was the best musical group ever to come to the arena in six years. Even better than Neil Diamond.”
