MILFORD — The Kiwanis Club of Delaware Valley is having a membership drive and would like to invite the community to join. The club has weekly Wednesday luncheon meetings, excepting the fourth Wednesday, at the Cliff Park Inn in Milford at noon. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Some of the goals that the Delaware Valley Club has accomplished since chartering in 2006 include: • Helping to send three students to Europe to further their educations, • Started a scholarship fund totaling $1,000, for scholarships of $500 each for a male and female student, • Threw a Pizza Party to honor the teenage volunteers at G.A.I.T. (Genuine Alternative In Therapy), • Held a Halloween Party for the underprivileged children of Pike County, • Helped sponsor a picnic for special-needs children and adults in Pike County, • Donated money for the Skid Monster Project to train teenage drivers and perhaps prevent accidents, • Started the BUGS program (Bring Up Grades) in the Delaware Valley School District, • Donated money to the SAFE KIDS Coalition of Pike County to purchase car seats for families in need, • Donated to the Ecumenical Food Pantry of Good Shepherd, and more. Current members of the club are of various ages and with diverse backgrounds allowing the club to grow in many different ways. In addition to club business, community and business information is shared at meetings, guest speakers are brought in for fellowship and our education. Consider joining. It is very rewarding work. The more hands they have to help, the more projects they can develop or support to help the children in the community. If you are interested in membership, come to a meeting, contact Jim Montaperto at 570-296-2879 or e-mail kiwanisdv@yahoo.com .
