Delving in secreted places

MILFORD After 18 years of annual tours, Milford still has one of the best kept secrets in Pennsylvania - it’s gardens. Once a year those secrets are shared with the public and for those who participate with the tour, it’s an eye-opening experience not soon forgotten. A photographers dream, this self-guided tour of seven local “Secret Gardens” on July 17 was again sponsored by the Milford Garden Club, “It’s a worthwhile activity. This is a major fundraiser for the Garden Club” said Pat Corcoran, a club member. “People put a great deal of work into their gardens and then volunteer them for the tour.” “Two homes were actually in Milford this year and the other five were just outside of town,” added Carole Linkiewicz, club president. This year the first stop of the tour was Remembrance Place located at Elderberry Alley and West Ann Street. The gardens there are maintained by the Milford Garden Club and include a butterfly garden. The newest added garden, “New Releases and Proven Winners” plants and flowers were donated by Graham Rice, gardening author and club member. Some 300 were expected to take the tour Saturday, an 20 percent increase from last year’s attendance.
