DV co-curricular achievements recognized

SHOHOLA Delaware Valley’s winners of a variety of state and International competitions received applause from the audience at the meeting of the board of education Thursday. Maura Angle, head of the Business Department, introduced Sam Belsterling, a senior, who plans a career in business communications, recently finished first among 75 competitors in the state-wide Future Business Leaders of America problem solving competition. Belstering will move on to compete in the nationals in Atlanta Ga. Sue Briggs introduced Crystal Castro, president of the school’s chapter of Health Occupations Students of America, who thanked the board for their support. Briggs sent 29 students to the statewide HOSA competition and 19 returned as first-place winners in their various disciplines. Dr. Claire Kenny of the VO-TEC Department said he has been taking teams to SKILLS USA state competitions for 27 years, and while there have been many winners, he’s never had a parliamentary procedure team win until this year. Three of its five members were on hand and club President, Nelson Silver spoke for them. The team will go on to a national competition in Kansas City in June. Coach, Jennifer Simonson introduced the DV Varsity Cheerleading squad and Stephanie Damstra, who Simonson said is the longest tenured member of the squad. The cheerleaders this March won the International Americheer Competition in Florida.
