HARRISBURG - Volunteer emergency response organizations across Pennsylvania have been awarded a total of $25 million in state grants. The funding came from a grant program for volunteer fire and ambulance companies administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. Grant amounts varied but ranged, on average, from $4,000 to $12,000. The grant money may be used to build or renovate a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair equipment, provide training, or reduce existing debt. All emergency response organizations that applied before the April 30 deadline received funding.
