Enhancement project extended

MILFORD — A lower than expected construction bid should allow the extension of this summer’s planned Milford street enhancement project. Milford Enhancement Committee manager Mary Ann Monte said Monday that contractor Constanza Construction’s bid of $590,000 for earlier planned sidewalk and curb work left some $230,000 in grant money unspent. That allowed for $136,000 in additional work, which includes the remaining length of the south side of East Harford Street, excluding only the proposed site for the new library, and small portion of West Harford near Forest Hall. Pending approvals from all the fronting property owners, the borough council agreed to the changes Monday. In other business Monday, the council: discussed Halloween night closing of East side streets, to be continued at a special 7 p.m., Oct. 8 meeting; in an effort to retain borough police, agreed to increase all existing officers’ salaries to $13.50 per hour and $12 for new hires; discussed but made no decision about setting new garbage pickup rates for multiple dwellings.
