Find out what it means to raise a seeing eye puppy

DINGMAN - Interested families are invited to join the 4-H Paw Partners Club and The Seeing Eye for an informational public meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, July 18, 2006, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Blooming Grove Fire Hall, Lords Valley. The Seeing Eye, the oldest dog guide school in North America, is in need of volunteer families to raise Seeing Eye puppies. These puppies, born to a special destiny, stay with volunteer families in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware for approximately 18 months. Volunteer puppy raisers also go to regular monthly meetings of their local Seeing Eye Puppy Club. Clubs are organized on the county level through the 4-H program. One person in the family has primary responsibility for the pup’s daily care and routine. Children from age 9 and up can participate, and retirees also are frequent volunteers. For more information, contact Diane Boucher Appel, the 4-H Educator at the Penn State Cooperative Extension, Pike County office (570) 296-3400.
