Forum to provide energy saving tips
MILFORD Pike County Light & Power Company (PCL&P), several Pike County human services agencies and the Pennsylvania Utility Commission (PUC) are jointly sponsoring a special forum on Saturday, Dec. 5 to promote low income assistance programs and share energy efficiency information that could prove useful this winter to residential customers in Pike County. The forum will be held from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Matamoras Borough Hall, 10 Avenue I in Matamoras. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., so the public can view displays and ask questions of energy experts. A continental breakfast will be served. Participants are encouraged to register in advance with the Pike County Human Development Office by calling 570-296-3434. The program will feature experts discussing how to save energy and money through efficiency and conservation measures, how to beat the cold this season with weatherization and winter energy tips and what to do if you need assistance in paying those winter heating bills. The Pike County Assistance Office will outline Pennsylvania’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) guidelines and provide a workshop about application procedures. The Pike County Human Development Office will describe mortgage and rental assistance, nutrition programs and opportunities for community partnering. A panel presentation will feature a discussion among representatives from the Pike County Office of Aging, Catholic Social Services, Safe Haven, Child Care Information Services and the Workforce Development program. Richard Struck, PCL&P’s director of Customer Energy Programs, said, “This forum combines information about low-income financial assistance programs with energy efficient practices that individual homeowners and renters can adopt that will save both money and energy.” The first 100 participants will receive a free compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb, whose energy-efficient features can help save money by using less electricity.
