Free physicals for Port firefighters

PORT JERVIS, N.Y. Physicians of Community Medical Care recently performed over 50 physical exams, free of charge, to members of the volunteer fire department of Port Jervis, N.Y. The volunteer firemen are required to receive this annual “check-up” as part of the safety standards set by OSHA in conjunction with the City of Port Jervis. “While we believe that every volunteer firefighter needs to be properly trained and equipped, we also recognize the paramount importance of insuring the overall physical fitness of those that provide our community with dependable firefighting service,” stated Joseph Kowal Sr., chief of the Port Jervis Fire Department. These annual physicals focus on the “interior” firefighters, i.e. those that fight fires from within a structure. “The Port Jervis Volunteer Fire Department is grateful to Community Medical Care for providing the physicals free of charge.” This represents significant cost efficiency for our volunteer men and women as well as to the taxpayers of Port Jervis,” stated Kowal. “Our volunteer firefighters are one of the city’s most valuable treasures,” stated Mayor Gary Lopriore. “I want to thank the physicians of Community Medical Care for their donation and commitment to our community,” he added.
