Friends in need of homes

PORT JERVIS, N.Y. Aaron is an altered male golden retriever mix about 8 years old. He came to the shelter as a stray and probably had a bad case of fleas because his tail has lost fur and he has signs of flea irritation. Aaron is a pretty gold color with white on his face. He does a great sit for biscuits and is a calm fellow. We can’t be sure he is housebroken but he keeps his cage clean. Spooky is a handsome all black cat with green eyes. He came to the shelter as a stray and is about 1 year old. Spooky loves to purr and is using the litter box in his cage. The shelter will have Spooky neutered before he goes to a new home. Some people think all the dogs in shelters are rejects or problem dogs. Well, this week we are featuring two pure bred dogs, Blue and Trooper. It is not unusual to see beautiful pure bred dogs of all ages in shelters. If you are considering a dog and want a certain breed, please look into a rescue group for the breed or a shelter. They are all out there! Don’t buy a pet from a pet store, flea market, etc. or take an animal from people giving animals away outside grocery stores, etc. That only adds to the problem. Watch this video to learn more about this problem in shelters today. If you are interested in adopting a pet, please call or visit the Humane Society of Deerpark/Port Jervis at 202 Route 209 North, Tuesday through Sunday. The shelter is closed every Monday. You can call to check what animals are available at 845-856-3677 or visit www.pjhs.petfinder.com.
