Shohola Elementary School is participating in the 2009 National Geographic Bee. To begin the competition, all fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students competed in seven preliminary rounds of questioning. Following these rounds, as well as a tiebreaker round, the top ten students then competed in the final championship round. Pictured are the top ten students, including the Shohola Elementary School Champion, Nick Haydu. Back row from left to right are Aaron Stevens, Tom Koenig, Frank Lukyanovskiy, champion Nick Haydu, Neal Roche and Alex Greenlaw. Front row from left to right are April Addis, Danielle Krick, Rachel Beals and Brooke Todd. As the school champion, Nick completed a 70 question National Geographic written test, which will now be scored by the National Geographic Society. This test will be used by the National Geographic Society to choose the top 100 students in Pennsylvania. State winners are invited to National Geographic headquarters in late May to compete in the national finals for scholarships in the amount of $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000.
