The Annual Safety Day programs at Airport Park on May 31 were a great success, said Eastern Pike Regional Chief Chad Stewart. Over 800 visitors attended in addition to 36 vendors. Safety Day was hosted by the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department and the Matamoras Volunteer Fire Department. Program demonstrations included: K-9 use by the Orange County, N.Y. Sheriff’s Department, Liberty, N.Y. Police Department, and the Pike County K-9, and a Jaws of Life and repelling demonstration was conducted by the Westfall Fire Department, Matamoras Fire Department, and the Port Jervis Fire Department. Two helicopters were also featured including the PA State Police and Life Flight. The Port Jervis Police Department made ID cards for the kids, which were a great success. Smokey the Bear was a hit for the children this year, provided by the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
