Guccini comments on primary results

MILFORD n The following statement by Attorney Steve Guccini is in response to the recent overturning of his Primary Election victory on the Pike County Democratic ticket for Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. The reversal was due to vote counting errors in two precincts: Westfall Township and Delaware Township District Two. The Pike County Elections Office discovered the errors during a vote canvass conducted days after the May 15 Primary Election. “First, I extend my sincere thanks to my campaign team, our volunteers, and Pike voters who supported my campaign for Judge of Pike County’s Court of Common Pleas. “After reviewing the tapes of the voting machines, as well as the procedure used by the Pike County Elections Office to correct the absentee ballots that were initially sent out containing errors, I have decided not to seek a recount or contest the election results.” He went on to say, “It is obvious that errors were made in the vote count on election night, but I am satisfied that the canvass that was done after the election has corrected those errors. “Although I am disappointed in the results, I do not believe they would change after a recount. Moreover, I believe a legal challenge would not be in the best interest of the election process. “I have contacted Greg Chelak and congratulated him on his victory in the primary.”
