NEWTON, N.J. n Newton Memorial Hospital recently celebrated National Hospital Week with a variety of events last week, culminating with its First Annual Nurse of the Year celebration. The hospital gave “Nurse of the Year” awards to: Corrine Englehart, of Medical/Surgical Nursing; Patricia Kresge, of Telemetry Nursing; Janine Nowicki, of Ambulatory Care Nursing; Barbara Reed, of Alternative Care Settings; Lois Rosenkrans, of Inpatient Behavioral Health; and Linda Siegrist, of Emergency Nursing. The American Nurse’s Association set the theme “Nursing: A Profession & A Passion,” for Nurse’s Day across the nation. “These awards highlight the diverse ways in which nurses are working to improve health care,” said Mary Ellen Rauner, Newton Memorial Hospital’s vice president of Patient Care and Services/chief nursing officer. “All the nurses at the North Jersey Healthcare Corporation/Newton Memorial Hospital continue to meet the expanding health care needs of the communities we serve. They are devoted caregivers as well as responsible professionals. In presenting the awards, Newton Memorial Hospital President & CEO Tom Senker emphasized the list of adjectives drawn from nomination letters written by the award winners’ peers. The descriptions included “outstanding judgment,” “above and beyond,” and “caring tirelessly for patients and staff.” “On behalf of our community, our board that represents that community, our medical staff that has a tremendous amount of respect for what you do and management, thank you for what you do every day,” Senker said. The nurses were honored during an hour-long ceremony in the Newton Memorial Hospital lobby which was attended by more than 200 people.
