PORT JERVIS, N.Y. - The Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark, celebrates this June as Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month. When the stresses of a world in turmoil or merely a bad day at the office threaten to overwhelm, help is just a cat-in-the-lap away. Feline therapy eases anxiety by lowering blood pressure and releasing “feel good” endorphins. At this time of year when animal shelters are over-flowing with cats of all ages, there has never been a better time to adopt a feline therapist and let a cat heal your heart. The Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark joins Petfinder.com and The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month celebration. They are inviting the public to partake in some relaxation therapy by stopping by the shelter to meet available feline therapists. The shelter hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 3 p.m. The shelter is closed Mondays. Call 845-856-3677 for more information.
