MILFORD - A New Jersey man was convicted of two counts Indecent Assault and Corruption of Minors last Thursday, according to a statement from Pike County District Attorney Douglas Jacobs. Shane Daniel Posey, 31, was convicted following a jury trial in Milford before the Pike County Court of Common Pleas. The trial lasted two days and included the testimony of an eleven year-old girl who told the jury what Posey had done to her. As she described Posey's crimes, the eleven year-old broke down into tears numerous times while being cross examined by the defendant's attorney. Through her testimony she described two specific acts where Posey had her touch him. The trial also included testimony from the child's mother and the testimony of an investigator from the Pennsylvania State Police. The six man, six woman jury deliberated approximately five hours before finding the Defendant guilty of all of the charges presented to them. After the conviction, Posey's bail was increased to the amount of $10,000 and he was taken to the Pike County Correctional Facility. Bruce DeSarro, the Assistant District Attorney who tried the case stated that "if it wasn't for the victim showing a courage beyond her years, we never would have been able to bring this individual to justice." DeSarro also stated that "the Pennsylvania State Police performed a skilled investigation that made the conviction possible." After the conviction for the three crimes, the Defendant faces up to a maximum 15 years in prison. A sentencing date has yet to be scheduled and is pending a pre-sentence investigation and an assessment by the Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Board under Meghan's Law.
